ABOUT ME
My name is Helen. And ever since I was a little girl I have always wanted to be an entraprenuer! I have not had a regular 9 to 5 job since I was 16 years old. My aspiration have always been to be my own boss. I am an independent and self motivating person and don't like to take orders from anybody else. (I'm sure that most of you can relate).
My experience with the business world started really young for me. My father was the CFO of a major manufacturing factory in Southeast Asia. And ever since I could remember, I used to love touring his factory and coming with him to work. His company was one of the best company to work for in the country because his workers were among the highest paid employees and he treated everyone with the utmost respect (they didn't have workers' rights back then in that sector of the world). And I remember when I was about 4 years old that someday I too will be successful just like him.
Why I'm starting this blog? I want to offer advice and info to young girls and women who wants to start a business but don't know where to start, who to ask, how to deal with all of the legal stuff...and lots more. This blog is meant to teach readers from simple "how to"s to advance business practices. Anybody can come up with a business idea; but it takes more than just passion to make an idea into a successful thriving business.
My credentials: I have owned numerous internet businesses, I have opened businesses in Asia and in the United States. I have dealt with international imports and exports issues. I graduated college with bachelors in Marketing, Supply Chain Management, and International Business (Imports & Exports). I have had experience with Real Estates investments since I was 19 and have my real estate license. I have also worked in promotions and public relations since I was 20 years old; and have planned, organized, and hosted numerous fashion shows for numerous high-end brands, and events for celebrities.
My goals: I have always wanted to write a book about business and marketing for young women who wants to turn their passions into realities.
A little bit about me:
I have always wanted to be a fashion designer and when I was 18 was accepted into FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising). However, my parents were very strict and wanted me to be a doctor. My mother wanted to be a doctor when she was a young girl, but the war the broke out in Vietnam in the 1970's made her dream disappeared. So she wanted me to be a doctor because now that we are in the US, I have the opportunity that she had never had. My father on the other hand, had a close friend who was a famous fashion designer in New York. He made a phone call to his friend, and after 30 min. on the phone, turned to me and said "No," I cannot go to fashion school because it was too risky of a career move; and that he didn't want to give up a scholarship to med school. Well, it ended up that I had defile my parents and didn't go to med school after all. I was inspired by a professor at Stanford who wrote an advertising book; and thus, my career in marketing and business begins here.
